During this past weekend Tom Lewand, who is the president of the Detroit Lions, was arrested in Roscommon County for suspicion of DUI, or other wise known as driving under the influence. It is being reported that his breathalyzer tests resulted in a .21 and a .20, which is more than twice the legal limit.

What makes this case interesting is that all employees in the NFL, not just the players, have to go by the Personal Conduct Policy. The following paragraph is a quote taken from Yahoo by Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the National Football League.

“As I’ve said before, this isn’t a player policy, it’s a personal conduct policy,” Goodell told reporters at the league’s rookie symposium in California. “It goes for everybody in the NFL.”

Goodell has recently stated that he will in fact have a meeting with Lewand to discuss the incident and to gather the facts. There is no doubting Lewand’s intoxication as you can watch the arrest video here.

While Lewand is not a public figure as a professional player is, he none-the-less is a well known figurehead around the Detroit area. I am sure Goodell will be swift and just in his meeting with Lewand. It will be interesting to see what comes from their meeting as there is no precedent for having to meet with the president of one of the NFL franchises for punishment reasons. Lewand had been seeking help from his alcohol addiction for over a year before the incident.

What does the kitchen think? If you were Goodell how would you react? Let the chefs know!
